How to choose the right lamp shade

A new lampshade can make a big difference in your home staging. It can improve the look and feel of your space and attract more buyers. You don’t need to buy new lamps; just need to know how to choose the right lamp shade for your room.

For home staging, it’s best to use neutral and versatile colors and patterns. This way, buyers can appreciate your design choices and also imagine their own preferences in the space. Check out our lampshade guide below for some helpful tips on how to pick the right lampshade.

LAMPSHADE HEIGHT:

The size of the shade is important for the look of your lamp. A good rule of thumb is to make the shade one-third of the lamp’s total height for table lamps and one-fourth to one-third of the lamp’s height from the floor for floor lamps.

You don’t want your lamp to look too tall or too short, or to show the harp that holds the bulb. This can ruin the aesthetic of your lamp, especially if it is at eye level or on a high place like a mantel.

LAMPSHADE WIDTH:

How do you choose the right lamp shade width for your lamp? Here are some simple tips to help you:. First, measure the width of your lamp base and multiply it by two. (For example, if your lamp base is 6 inches wide, your shade should be at least 12 inches wide.) If your lamp base is round, measure it straight across. If your lamp base is square, measure it diagonally. Next, make sure that the widest part of your shade is slightly wider than the widest part of your base on both sides. At least half an inch of difference is recommended. Finally, consider where you will place your lamp. If it is near a bed or in a busy hallway, you may want to choose a narrower shade to avoid bumping into it.

TIPS FOR SELECTING LAMPSHADES FOR STAGING:

Lampshades can make a big difference in how your home looks to potential buyers. Here are some tips to choose the right ones for staging:

  • Pick lampshades with sleek and simple shapes that don’t distract from the rest of the room.
  • Opt for neutral colors and materials that let plenty of light through. This will create a bright and airy atmosphere.
  • Avoid lampshades that are too trendy, quirky, or outdated. They might not appeal to everyone’s taste and style.
