After Christmas Chaos: How to Get Organized After the Big Day

Christmas may be over, but the mess is not. You may feel overwhelmed by the piles of wrapping paper, decorations, gifts, and leftovers that clutter your home. But don’t worry; you can get organized and start the new year with a fresh and tidy space. Here are some tips on how to deal with the after-Christmas chaos.

Sort out your gifts. Decide what you want to keep, return, exchange, or donate. If you have receipts, keep them in a safe place. If you have gift cards, use them as soon as possible or store them in your wallet. If you have unwanted or duplicate gifts, donate them to a charity or regift them to someone who will appreciate them.

  • Store your decorations.

  • Take down your Christmas tree and ornaments and pack them away carefully. Label your boxes and bins so you can find them easily next year. Use ziplock bags, bubble wrap, or tissue paper to protect fragile items. If you have any broken or worn-out decorations, toss them or recycle them.

  • Clean up your wrapping paper. Don’t just throw away your wrapping paper, ribbons, and bows. You can reuse them for future gifts or crafts. You can also recycle them if they are not metallic or glittery. If you have any leftover gift bags or boxes, fold them and store them for later use.
